While we appreciate the pending plans to improve Hamilton Road, we, the residents of same, are concerned about the potential removal of trees on the non-residential side of said road.
A few years ago several of the existing trees were removed, by visual estimate it seemed to be about half. We were told this tree removal was necessary to slow the movement of the hill. Since that time, the hill seems to be moving faster than ever. Engineering issues aside, part of the charm of Hamilton Road is that it is a dead end street with houses only on one side and is typically very quiet. Since the trees have been removed, the traffic noise from Amsterdam Road has increased tremendously. In addition to noise concerns, the removal of the trees as has caused pedestrian traffic from Amsterdam to use the hillside as a short cut up the hill. We are concerned about the effect any further tree removal would have on the continued enjoyment of the peace and quiet they help afford the residents.
Therefore we ask that no more trees be removed. If it is absolutely necessary in the course of the proposed road improvements, we ask that trees suited to providing a noise barrier be replanted once the work is completed. Lombardy Poplar would be a good choice due to its upright habit, lack of large branches that could cause damage to vehicles, sturdiness rapid growth and overall aesthetic qualities.
Respectfully submitted by the residents of Hamilton Road, Park Hills, Kentucky.
