Stop Logging Endangered Snow Leopard Habitat in the Hindu Kush

  • by: Nyack Clancy
  • recipient: Mr. Samiullah Ibrahimi, Advisor to Executive Director for Afghanistan

The Hindu Kush is a vast mountain range that stretches between central Afghanistan and Northern Pakistan, snow leopards, Siberian ibex, sheep, wolves, foxes, lynx, bears and many other wildlife species of other species.

The snow leopard is an endangered big cat with threats existing from the demand for its' bones used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, its highly prized pelt and farmers protecting their livestock. The natural prey of the snow leopard have been systematically hunted out of many areas. Habitat destruction could send the already endangered snow leopard into a decline from which it cannot recover.

Continued logging and deforestation, (both legal and illegal), has been blamed for the floods that devistated Pakistan. We ask the governments od Afghanistan and Pakistan to stop issuing permits for logging. It is causing havoc in the lives of people, and pushing endangered species towards extinction.
