Wales - Stay Strong on Sustainability

While the coalition government seems set on destroying the English countryside and its wildlife, other parts of the UK are being rather more responsible.

Wales is the latest country to set its own agenda on sustainability, more or less ignoring the mixed messages coming from Westminster. In fact, the Welsh Assembly is legislating to put sustainability at the centre of government and public sector decisions, rather than leaving it as an afterthought.

There are no other governments committed to being environmentally responsible to this extent. However, there is a risk that Wales' ground-breaking plans could be watered down by nervous lawyers wary of pressure from industry.

Ask Wales to stand firm on sustainability and not let its forward-thinking plans get side tracked.

We the undersigned applaud the Welsh Assembly's decision to put sustainability at the heart of government and public sector decisions.  This sort of forward-thinking, responsible planning could make Wales a leader on environmental policy making.

We hope that the plans go ahead as they are, without being watered down through pressure from industry or backwards-looking elements in government.
