Please sign and share this petition in an effort to stop the hunting of alligator in Palm Beach, Florida. These swamps in the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, which is a first. Isn't a refuge supposed to be a safe haven for the animals?? Activists and others are in protest against alligator hunting as a sport and we are trying to encourage the State of Florida; ban alligator hunting!

With the onset of the area's first alligator hunt event, the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida is working towards an effort to ban alligator hunting, although the U. S. Fish and Wildlife endorses the hunt. They say that the numbers of alligators is not in danger of extinction. Signs were present to greet hunters saying "Ban gator hunts." The problem is, as stated by the animal activists, " People simply like to kill animals, and that’s just not right." It is just that alligator hunters get an immense adrenaline rush after catching, battling with and killing such a massive and powerful creature!

As the sun began to set Friday evening, six hunters and their assistants sprayed themselves with bug repellent, strapped their boat with weapons like bang sticks, harpoons and spear guns, and drifted off into the dark waters of the refuge park. The fact is that these animals do suffer greatly through the torturous brutality for the amusement of the hunters. Can't imagine why such a "sport" is considered legal in the slaughter and torture of any animal! This is a refuge park; a safe haven for the protection of the animals!! Once the gator is slaughtered in a hunt, the meat is consumed by many, the hide is made into purses, belts, boots and other products, and their limbs are chopped off and sold for human pleasure and display!

Despite their numbers, these animals sustain undue suffering at the hands of hunters who are looking for an adrenaline rush for such "legal torture" of these huge and strong beings. The gators at this particular refuge are not even afraid of man, which means they are even more susceptible to being hunted and caught, making them "sitting ducks" to this "legal torture." Activists comment, regarding managing their numbers, "The alligators are prehistoric creatures and never needed humans to control them. They manage their own numbers. We’re not doing them a favor.” Stop making alligator hunting legal!

Palm Beach, Florida Law Makers - Stop endorsing alligator hunting in this refuge park and throughout your state! Isn't a refuge supposed to be a safe haven for the animals?? Studies by animal activists has shown that hunting is not a way to control the number of alligators; they manage their own numbers. It has been proven that these massive beings are not fearful of man in this area and easy targets to the legal brutality they endure. This is inhumane and considered animal abuse and cruelty as to the way these animals meet their end! Stop the abuse! Ban alligator hunting!!
