Demand to legalize Gay Marriage In Illinois and Throughout the USA

When President Obama first entered office, he promised gay marriage would soon be legalized and yet several years into his second term, it is still an important issue across not only the USA but the world!.  Civil unions have been approved in several states but still carry none of the same rights as the “typical” married couple. Many families are torn apart and in desperation because of promises not kept.

The Governor of Illinois has also been dragging his feet in signing legislation for gay marriage and equal rights since last year.  Someone needs to take this more seriously for the millions of people it affects.  It is absurd that so many people condemn gay rights yet statistics show more heterosexual couples split much more frequently than the gay couples.  Furthermore, the only difference between the two components is what happens behind closed doors which are such a minute part of a successful, loving relationship. What happens in private should remain private, despite the sexual orientation of the couple.

People are so concerned about the "preservation of the sacred institution." However, take a look at people in the public eye and frequency of divorces, splits, adultery and so forth.  Many people believe that same-sex marriage destroys family life, which in no way is a proven fact.  What makes a relationship is love, communication, trust and honesty found in most same-sex couples just as it could be in a relationship between a man and a woman.  We are just asking for the same rights because we do not harm anyone and carry all the same special qualities of others if given half the chance!  We are condemned for being different yet we are just as caring, loving and open as any other person.  Let’s please take a strong stand to demand marriage equality for everyone!

Your office has promised us equality in gay marriage not only in Illinois but across the USA and hopefully the world.  Rather than just speak the words, put the efforts into practice and legalize gay marriage that comes with equal rights for all couples.  Our love and unions should be granted all the same benefits as the “typical” type of marriage.  Please move forward in these efforts and sign the laws and bills for marriage equality for gays and heterosexuals.  Thank you for help us and make a difference for all!
