Please sign and share this petition worldwide as we encourage the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of International Conservation to take significant measures in protecting the scaly Pangolin from endangerment. We asking them for a proposed increase of protection for the pangolin under the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES). This animal is in danger of extinction and needs our help and protection.

In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the scaly pangolin is in danger of extinction. The pangolin has a scaly exterior and unusual body shape. It has the ability to roll up in a ball when feeling threatened, thusly resembling that of a pine cone or artichoke. However, wildlife experts state that this unusual animal is the most frequently trafficked mammal throughout the country.

This rare mammal, the pangolin has a very long tongue and powerful tail used to capture its food of choice; insects. The mean of a pangolin is considered a delicacy in various countries including China because of beliefs that it has some nutritional and medicinal values. Poaching and killing these mammals is on the rise, drastically in recent years. Tons of pangolin scales and meat are often packed in various discreet boxes and containers to be shipped to various countries like Uganda, France, Southeast Asia and other international ports.

Along with other countries, Cambodia does have laws banning the hunt and kill of the pangolin but their enforcement methods are extremely weak, according to Bunra Seng, the Conservation International Director in Cambodia. As a result, the pangolin species are listed as critically endangered. Apparently, having laws without enforcement will not protect and save the pangolin. Help us in our efforts to ask for a proposed increase of protection for the pangolin under the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES) by signing and sharing this petition on all worldwide media sites.

US Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of International Conservation – We urge you to do more to save the scaly pangolin from endangerment and extinction. We are asking you for a proposed increase in protection for the pangolin under the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES). Laws exist to protect these very endangered animals but unless you increase protection to enforce those laws, these rare mammals are in danger of extinction.
