Tell the Pittsburgh Zoo to Send Their Elephants to a Sanctuary!

A CBS News video showed Australian sheep dogs lunging at elephants at the Pittsburgh Zoo, who ran frightened and showed visible signs of distress. Dr. Barbara Baker, President and CEO of the Zoo, defended their use of dogs to herd elephants: "The introduction of the dogs has been a valuable tool as we continue to elevate the care and management of our elephant herd."

The dogs showed aggressive behavior, such as growling. The manager in charge of the elephants at the time reported that the dogs bit the elephants while performing their herding task.

The USDA ordered the Zoo to stop using the dogs, but it is clear that the Zoo does not have the elephants' best interests at heart. Please sign the petition to urge the Pittsburgh Zoo to release their elephants to a sanctuary so they can live the rest of their lives in peace!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with CBS News video footage which showed  Australian sheep dogs lunging at elephants at the Pittsburgh Zoo. The elephants ran frightened and showed visible signs of distress. We understand that Dr. Barbara Baker, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Zoo, defended the use of dogs to herd elephants: "The introduction of the dogs has been a valuable tool as we continue to elevate the care and management of our elephant herd."

The dogs showed aggressive behavior, such as growling. The manager in charge of the elephants at the time reported that the dogs bit the elephants while performing their herding task.

As you know, the USDA ordered your zoo to stop using the dogs, but we believe you need to take things further to show that you truly care about the elephants at your establishment. We respectfully urge you to release their elephants to a sanctuary so they can live the rest of their lives in peace. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
