Ban Fur Sales on eBay!

In an attempt to protect rare animals, the U.K. only allows dealers with special permits to sell rare furs and leathers. Unfortunately, eBay has provided a perfect way for opportunistic sellers to get around the law and peddle their illegal wares to unsuspecting customers online.

Earlier this year, police officers raided the house of a dealer in Chorley, Lancashire who was advertising rare furs on eBay. They were shocked to find mountains of coats made from what looked like the skins of otters, wolves, and ocelots.

In the U.S., fur sales laws are much more lenient. It is prohibited to sell the fur or skins of dogs, cats, marine mammals, and endangered species. All other furs are fair game. Those that sell fur items must label them as containing fur, but that's pretty much the extent of the regulations.

Just because it's legal in the U.S. to sell most furs, it does not mean it is the right thing to do. Whether they are trapped or "farmed" for their fur, animals experience extreme pain and suffering. We need to put a stop to this cruelty.

Unfortunately, the fur trade on eBay is booming. While eBay regulations on fur sales seem to attempt to mirror different countries' laws, it is nearly impossible to regulate the over one million listings for furs on the site. For both legal and moral reasons, furs should not be sold on eBay! Please sign this petition to demand that eBay ban fur sales.

There is no doubt that the fur trade on eBay is booming. But while eBay regulations on fur sales seem to attempt to mirror different countries' laws, it is nearly impossible to regulate the over one million listings for furs on the site. For both legal and moral reasons, please ban fur sales on eBay.
