Demand the UK Government Ends Food Waste and Ensures all Edible Food is Distributed to the Poor

While people go hungry across the UK, edible food waste is being duped in landfill or left to rot in fields, according to a report on theguardian.com.

Less than 1% of edible surplus food in the UK is sent to charities to help feed the hungry. Vegetables not sold to retailers have been left to rot in fields, put into anaerobic digestion or sent straight to landfill.

According to the report: "While retailers and supermarkets have doubled the amount of surplus food sent to feed the needy in the last three years, a high volume of food that never makes it into the shops is being needlessly wasted elsewhere in the supply chain."

Tragically, more than eight million people in the UK go hungry every day and yet vast quantities of edible food goes to waste - this needs to stop!

Please sign and share the petition to demand the UK Government introduces tough legislation to the food waste hierarchy scheme to ensure that all edible waste food is distributed to the poor and not wasted.
