Never underestimate the power and value of registering and microchipping your pets.
This petition is dedicated to all those who thinks
that microchipping our pets is the same as Hitler tattooing jews.
Speedy, a senior, black-colored Chihuahua got lost from his Oklahoma home back in January 2012.
His owners, Lori and Don Whitton, did everything they could to find their beloved pet.
They posted fliers, visited local shelters, offered rewards, used social media sites
to advertise their “Lost Dog” fliers, but never found their dog. After months of zero leads,
the Whittons simply gave up.
However, on March 10, 2014, 26 months after losing Speedy, the pet owners received
a phone call they never expected.
Trey Amrein of the Norman Animal Welfare Center called the Whittons to inform them
their pet had been found.
Two Oklahoma State University students found Speedy on campus and brought him
to their facility to have the canine scanned for a microchip. Thankfully, the senior pet
had a chip and the information on it was up to date. This is what made the reunion possible.
Where and how Speedy was kept for the past 2 years is somewhat of a mystery.
When found, the dog was wearing a rabies tag from a Midwest City veterinary clinic,
and this leads the Whittons to believe the dog was rescued and well cared for shortly after
he got lost back in 2012.
Speedy’s rightful owners are glad someone took good care of their dog during all those months,
but they are thrilled to have him back home with them where he belongs.
