UMass-Amherst said in a February 6th, 2015 policy statement sent to faculty this week that Iranian national students will not be admitted to several programs in the university’s College of Engineering and the College of Natural Sciences.
We demand that UMass Amherst put an end to its discriminatory admission policy against Iranian nationals. The discrimination against Iranians does not have a rational basis and since it is based on national origin, it is illegal.

Stop UMass Amherst Discrimination against Iranian Students!

UMass stated discriminatory policy objective of compliance of the US sanction laws has no relevance to the law. Nothing in the law prevents universities from admitting Iranian students. The law gives the State Department, not the universities, discretion to issue visas to prospective Iranian students.

It will be an oxymoron for the US executive branch to on one hand issue a visa for an Iranian student to attend a US college, and on the other hand, prosecute the institution which allowed the student to attend the program.

UMass shall stay true to the very principal of higher education, which is to advance knowledge to improve the life of the people by granting accessible education to everybody.

The UMass is the only university which has taken upon itsself to capriciously enforce a law and engage in invidious discrimination against Iranian nationals in process.

WE DEMAND IMMEDIATE END TO DISCRIMINATION AGAINST IRANIANS.
