Make Auchengray Roads Safer!

Our small community was lucky enough to have its primary school refurbished. We also had a brand new, easily accessed, public play-park, situated to the front of the school, installed next to the main road. This was instated in place of the old, hard to access play park, originally located behind the school. We also now have out of hours public access to the schools own Muga pitch. A much needed addition for the older children in the area, as well as anyone, in the area, interested in getting active, for free!

To improve the safety for users, and for residents in general, it is essential that we have some form of effective speed reduction installed. After several requests to Traffic and Transportation Engineering South Lanarkshire Council.
There have been no changes made. It wasn't indicated in one communication that one hump could be considered for installation, but at the cost of the Education department. The extended response, would indicate that we do not meet the criteria for effective road calming in Auchengray. In addition that until a fatality or serious injury is caused by a speeding car, then we are not ever likely to achieve the desired credentials either..

We need speed humps, solar speed-alert signage and clearer display of the fact a school and playground, is located imminently, as cars enter the villiage from the west.
We are not asking for anything, that has not been given already, to nearly every other, newly rebuilt school, that fell under the Government funded Rebuild Scheme.
Please support this petition, to improve the safety of our little hamlet, keeping all of our residents safe, including our children and even our pets!

Dear Stuart,

in response to requests linking to 5956884,

We, as a community would like to request, again, that safety measures are installed on our main road.

Our school, play park and church hall are all situated on an ever-increasingly busier commuter road. Connecting Carnwath and outlying areas to Livingston, and vice versa. With the installation of the new park and muga, we have rising numbers  coming to the village on foot/bike and in cars. Children cross this road regularly.

The adjacent footpath has still to be repaired by South Lanarkshire Council, meaning the children avoid using it due to its uneven surface, puddles and mud. Subjecting them further to the potential dangers of the road. Cars and lorries speed though this village all day long. Even more so at rush hour time.

The concerns have been brought to the attention of south Lanarkshire Council, several times, over many years, from different generations of families. Comments reflecting this as seen within the signatures.

We plead with you, to put in real, effective, safety features, such as speed bumps and solar speed-warning signs. Before someone is hurt or a fatality occurs. Help us protect our families as soon as possible please.

Yours Faithfully,

The Below signed...

Update #27 years ago

It's been requested that I cease the petition so that South Lanarkshire Council, may begin the enquiries, looking into the safety of the road.
However, I have, on two separate occasions in the last few weeks, been told that, South Lanarkshire Council will NOT be installing Speed humps or solar lighting, due to the objections of the minorities, and the maintenance costs etc.
So ultimately, I've to stop the petition and they have no intention of doing anything??
What do you think I should do?
