Petition To Make It Unlawful To Euthanize Homeless Pets

Target:
President Obama
Sponsored by:

Dear President Obama,

Thank you so much for reading this letter. I am writing to plead that you make euthanasia of homeless pets unlawful. I had enclosed a petition of signatures and comments from people across United States and around the world who are against the killing of homeless pets in America.

As you probably already know each year in America an estimated 7 million adorable dogs like Bo, cats, even puppies and kittens are euthanized in animal control facilities. 7 Millions!!! So about 20,000 will die today!  Because of outdated small pounds innocent and lovable pets went through terrifying and painful death by means of gas chamber, heart stick and legal injection. Some pounds like Heard County Animal Control in Franklin, GA are so insufficient it has only 8 runs to house their entire overpopulated pets within their cities and town! And some counties claim they do not have funds to build larger shelters and yet they are able to pay for the expensive legal injections and elect lame statues around their town! There are also pound-seize where brokers take all of shelters' pets for painful and extremely cruel testing.  And then there are also vet schools that have been secretly taking healthy pets to practice euthanasia.  It is not euthanasia when the pets are not suffering.  It is killing!

So please, President Obama, make America humane again. Please stop the killings (millions of job will be created to care for these pets). United States is supposed to be the land of the free. A civilized nation. The greatest peacekeeper the world has ever seen and yet we fall behind Germany that has long illegalized killing of healthy, curable and handicap pets. What are we teaching our children ~ that it is acceptable to slaughter their beloved pets because they are homeless?

Thank you for your time and consideration, President Obama. I had cried for days after knowing the millions of furry friends being slaughtered each year.  And I am not alone because according to Alley Cat Allies survey: 70% of Americans think it is inhumane to kill healthy, curable or handicap pets.  So please be the president to historically change this. After all, we can not expect God to bless America if we continue to slaughter his creations!

P.S. Here are some pets that had recently been "euthanized" in a pound ~ there would have been more had not 2 animal rescue groups saved as much as they can.

I think this is one of the worst things that we have done in this country, there has to be a way to open up very large no kill shelters in each state to get the dogs and cats more time to get adopted, rescued or fostered. If on the show pit bull and parolees she can bring in 200 pit bulls from shelters around southern california and keep them at there no kill complex, why cant each state do that but on a much larger scale.

Do we kill people who are sick? No! When a person gets sick they go to the Doctor and get treated! Why should this be differnt for animals?!?! If a pet can be treated or is healthy then there is no reason to Euthanize!!!!!!!!

We take in rescues and I very much against this horrifice attack. If all the people and breeders spayed and neutered we would have a better grip on this problem.

This is so sad! I wish we could end puppy mills, irresponsible ownership and cruel deaths. Maybe one day there will be a generation that gets it right.

No animal should be killed for the 'crime" of being homeless! They need the chance to be given a forever home or to go to a no-kill shelter. We do not have the right to make that decision for a healthy future pet.

These dogs certainly deserve a chance to be found a home--I know of many non-profit groups with volunteers that work really hard to home them, and I would love to see more of these groups appear and also for them to come together. The kill rate would certainly be lower; along with telling people to adopt and not shop, this will be even better.

As a child,I have had the heartbreak of a pet being euthanized after my parents took our family dog in to the "shelter" thinking the dog would be adopted out to someone else. The next day they changed their mind but we learned the dog was already euthanized. I am sure there are also many pets who got out and their owners never knew which pound they ended up in and so were never claimed and euthanized in just a few days. Please stop this inhumane practice and give these animals a chance. We can become a no-kill nation if the dog pounds will take the time to try to find homes. We have one pound in Michigan with a 100% kill rate.

Please let them live, they cannot speak for themselves. It is not their fault they are homeless, it is ours.

Need bigger shelters for inncocent homeless dogs and cats...please respect them. They have their rights to live and help find them in good loving homes: The word "DOG"spells backward:GOD, Man's best friend! They are incredible creatures that I love so much from the bottom of my heart!

It is sad to say that we as a society have reached the point of hardness that some don't think of animals as pets, they have become more of a burden. It is always easier to eliminate than to spare the effort into giving them a chance for a life.

It's time to do something. This is crazy. These animals don't get enough time for someone to come back and claim them or to get adopted out. Nobody would ever think of euthanizing a child that did not get adopted and animals bring every bit as much joy to someone's life (if not more) than a child.

There are many homes for these animals, especially up North where the laws have made pet availability scarce. These animals can be transported all over instead of Euthanizing. They are God's creatures as we are and deserve a chance they've never had. There are also many people that if given a chance would foster these animals. You just have to let people know they are needed.
