Request Fair Treatment

As an HEU member we have rules in our collective agreement to support employees when they apply for postings.  These rules ensure the most senior, experienced employee receives the job.  The latest awarding of Payroll Supervisor has created a Grievance by three employees.  These three employees are working towards Step 3 of their grievances to have this rectified.

With this Petition we hope our union can show the employer at the Step 3 Grievance Hearing on May 27th that our department and fellow HEU sisters and brothers stand behind us in our cause to be rightfully considered for the Payroll Supervisor position.

Colleen Milne, Crystal Tillotson and Lisa Jolley were disqualified from interviewing or testing for the position recently awarded to Cheryl Martelli. Before the interview, the three individuals were pulled in separately to meet with Susan LeBlanc, who detailed how each did not qualify. This was soley based on not having one year of supervisory experience within the last five years. The posting was then awarded to the one person who applied who apparently has one year supervisory experience.  There was no other consideration taken regarding experience, courses or seniority.  Our newest casual has now become our new Supervisor.  Anyone that has been working here for the last six years, or longer, would not qualify.

The Posting stated "Grade 12, Successful Completion of a recognized payroll course, five years recent related experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity OR an equivalent combination of education and experience".  This apparently did not apply when they awarded the position.

Please do not worry that by signing this petition, the employer will hold anything against you for supporting us.  By signing this Petition, you are in agreement that you would like to see the aforementioned three employees be considered for a fair interview.  Thanks for your support and consideration!
