Despite being banned in the Philippines since 1998, the horribly cruel and illegal dog meat trade continues to flourish in certain regions of the country.
The dogs suffer enormously, collected on the streets and held for days with little food or water in sweltering heat. They then endure being crammed into a tiny cage, one on top of the other with their muzzles tightly tethered shut for their long distance transport to slaughter. Humane Society International has been working with local police and animal groups for years to end this cruel trade.
