Allow Backyard Hens in Lathrup Village

The residents of Lathrup Village, MI, request that Mayor Brock and City Council approve an amendment to the ordinace code allowing up to 3 backyard hens per single family residence.

We believe that our community should have the right to raise backyard hens, just as we have the right to own cats, dogs and other small pets on our personal property.

We believe hens offer many benefits to families who choose to keep them, some of which include fresh eggs, insect control, nutrient rich compost matter (great for our rain gardens!), as well as being an entertaining, non-agressive and social pet.

We appreciate the progressive and family focused atmosphere cultivated and supported by our Council.  We believe that allowing hen ownership is another step in this direction.

We hope that Council hears our community's wishes and takes them seriously when considering this matter.

Thank you!
