Stop wasting California ratepayers public money by hiding behind greenhouse gas reductions

The California public utilities are by state law allowed to collect a monthly fee from their customers to procure cost effective energy efficiency savings. The State's PUC authorized $1 billion to the four investor-owned utilities in the state in 2010-2012, and and 1/3 of that amount for each year since.

The PUC's own evaluation results have shown that the actual realized savings are only about 50%-60% of that reported by the utilities. This means that it is costing the customers more money to procure that 1 kWh of electric savings or that 1 therm of natural gas savings.

Hiding behind words like 'reducing greenhouse gas', 'California has placed energy efficiency at the top of the loading order, the utilities and their contractors continue to blame the PUC's evaluation methods for their poor performance. They make arguments that the PUC makes counting energy savings too hard; the PUC's methodologies are not transparent. They argue that the PUC does not need to conduct evaluations; simply just trust us.

We as electric and natural gas customers could do a better job on our own in savings energy. Please help me sign this petition to revoke that law that allows for this waste of ratepayers funds.
