FUND YOUR CHILD'S WELL ROUNDED EDUCATION

The Groton Dunstable School Committee has encouraged all residents to come forward and share revenue building ideas & opinions on how to decrease expenses in order to help balance the 2015 school budget.  We asked that the GDRSD properly research & exhaust all options including revenue generating programs, restructuring the budget, fundraising and an override if need be verses the deep cuts they currently recommend. They responded to our petition with a school budget that includes the Art/Music/Foreign Language programs and provided comparable classroom sizes from our previous year in the school budget.

The Groton & Dunstable residents need to make their voices be heard and to protect our children's education once again through voting YES on April 1, 2014 in favor of the fire house debt exclusion.

Our next step in obtaining a well rounded education is to obtain the funds needed to avoid any additional cuts to the current approved school budget.  Without the proper funds needed to fund the current school budget we will be subject to many if not all of the devestating cuts listed in the link below.

Groton Dunstable High School is accredited with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).  The complete dismantling of the Arts and Foreign Languages programs will cause the school to lose its accreditation with NEASC.

This is a serious issue and needs immediate attention. The NEASC accreditation is like the "good housekeeping seal of approval" for colleges to know your high school has at least minimal standards in curricular content and facilities.  Without it, most colleges simply will not want to accept our graduates.

I ask the residents of Groton to registered to vote if you are not already registerd before the deadline of March 12, 2014 so you are prepared to cast your vote in favor for the fire house debt exclusion and allow the funding to be utilized to obtain a well rounded education for our children.

The ballot on April 1, 2014 will include the vote for the fire station debt exclusion. This is a crucial step on road that will allow us to obtain the necessary funds to provide a well rounded education to our children. The $9M fire station on Farmers Row is currently being paid for with regular tax revenues and is scheduled to open this spring. The change in financing to a debt exclusion would let the town pay for the station using a different financial mechanism. If the debt exclusion is approved April 1, the change would exclude the $448,000 annual payment from the town’s tax levy limit. Those funds could then be used as part of a solution to a projected budget deficit in the Groton-Dunstable Regional School District’s Fiscal Year 2015 proposed budget. VOTE YES FOR EDUCATION = VOTE YES FOR THE FIRE HOUSE EXCLUSION

The fire house debt exclusion is an unavoidable necessity in our quest to educate the whole-child and avoid an override.

After further research I needed to update this petition. Please review and pass along to any of your friends, family and older students as this will have a direct impact on the high school students entering college in 2015 if they succeed in dismantling the curriculum as the school committee recommended. Letters to all local & state news editors and contacting the NEASC will help this cause. They can be reached through their website at https://www.neasc.org
