Rescued from a kill shelter in North Carolina, Ava was a gentle, timid Pit mix puppy. For a couple of months, Ava was cared for by a lovely lady named Sarah, who adored her. As Sarah was unable to keep her, Ava was transferred to a foster home in Ohio. It was there that Ava lost her life. The foster home left Ava, and other fosters, unsupervised. As a result, one foster ran away and was gone for 2 days. Ava did not run away, but she did kill a couple of chickens and a goose that lived at the foster home. Because of this, the boyfriend of the foster brutally murdered Ava by drowning her. The thought of this defenseless creature struggling to breathe is beyond heartbreaking. Please sign this petition in memory of sweet Ava. We will not give up until we achieve Justice For Ava!
Update 7/23/2011:
From Ava's first foster mom:  Ava's first foster mom, Sarah (who is pictured with Ava), wants everyone to know that her husband spent time with Ava everyday.  Ava never exhibited any fear or aggression towards him or any man (or woman or child for that matter).  Ava was always sweet and easygoing.
From Trunewf's Rescue:  We continue to wait for the legal system to follow its protocol.  Please know we are staying on top of their progress and will report it here.  Also, a word of caution to all animal welfare organizations that utilize foster homes.  Require that the foster home notify you when any additional individuals take up residence in the home regardless as to whether that person(s) will be interacting with the foster animal(s) or not.
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that Robert D. Hooper be held accountable and receive the maximum punishment for the deliberate, inhumane death of Ava, a mixed breed puppy, which occurred on July 6, 2011.  We hope that by punishing this crime to the fullest extent of the law, it will help future animal abusers think twice before killing innocent animals.

Sincerely,
