One of the most unknown critically endangered species on the planet is Papua New Guinea's Tenkile Tree Kangaroo (sometimes known as "Scott's tree-kangaroo"). The Tenkile Conservation Alliance has been working locally to make the Torricelli Mountain Range a protected area. Their work has largely involved helping local villages manage their natural resources, seek alternate sources of protein, and practice sustainable farming. Their work has helped double the population of Tenkile Tree Kangaroos in the past ten years, but numbers are still low. The TCA has the support of the Papua New Guinea government and locals, but still have a lot of work to do to protect the Tenkile's habitat.
