We Need Out of Hours Vet Care in Exmouth and East Devon!

Animals are suffering, due to no out-of-hours veterinary cover in Exmouth and East Devon.

Animals which are hurt on the roads are either left to die, or taken by car (most buses and taxis don't allow pets) into Exeter, up to an hour's drive away, during which time the animal suffers with broken limbs or internal injuries, and most die. This has happened dozens of times and is unacceptable.

Family pets are waiting from Friday night until Monday morning with poisoning, sunstroke, lacerations, trauma and illness because people can't get hold of a vet on the weekend.  Local residents may not have a car, or petrol money, or may not have taxi fare - if they even find a taxi which accepts an injured animal.  Mondays and Fridays in vet surgeries are becoming chaotic and distressing due to the extreme busyness of vet surgeries - this is no way to go on.

It has also been critical in recent hot weather with animals with sunstroke being left without vet care or vet advice, and if an animal is found in a hot car, on the weekend, that animal cannot be cared for properly without an hour-long drive. This is inhumane.

Thousands of people and their pets live in East Devon with many more visitors. Exmouth is too populated to be left without vital vet services at any time.

Vets - remember why you became vets!  Animals are suffering for lack of a service.  Exmouth vets said they'd bring back the service if people requested it - well, we need it! Our animals need you!   Please bring it back, and share the rota between you, as you did before.  Thank you.

Dear Howard House, Corner House and Raddenstiles Veterinary Surgeries:

We need out of hours vet cover in Exmouth. Please reinstate this service. Animals are suffering on the hour-long drive into Exeter, some animals are left for hours and days with treatable conditions, and accident victims are often left to die.  This cannot continue.

Thank you.
