Protect Coral Sea

The Coral Sea is located off the Eastern coast of Australia known as Queensland and includes the Great Barrier Reef. Currentlty the largest UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Coral Sea is one of the regions with the greatest biodiversity in the world.

They are proposing to draw a line down the middle of the Coral Sea  from north to south. The outter half would be fully protected, but the half closest to to coastline will remain open to fishing. This where most of the coral reefs, breeding grounds for the large ocean fish and vital habitats for turtles, whales and sharks happen to be. It means that 90% of the Coral Sea's unprotected coral reefs will remain open to fishing.

We ask Environmental Minister Tony Burke to make the entire Coral
Sea a marine national park and marine sancutary.
