My daughter Chanelle is 7 years old. She was diagnosed with moderate to severe, bilateral, sensory-neural hearing loss at age 2. I was in total disbelief to find that no insurance companies will cover the cost of hearing aids in Massachusetts, and that all of the state funded programs that help with the cost of the aids are only available to low income families. Insurance should at the very least cover hearing aids for children, as it is an absolute necessity to their education and ultimately, to their ability to be contributing members of society in the future!
Please help us with the passage of House Bill 910, which will mandate insurance companies to cover 80% of the cost of hearing aids. Thank you.

We the undersigned, are asking for your support to pass House bill 910, which will mandate health insurance companies in Massachusetts to cover 80% of the cost of hearing aids.
We believe that insurance companies should at the very least cover the cost of hearing aids in children, as it is an absolute necessity to their development, education, and ultimately, their ability to be contributing members of society in the future.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration on this important issue.
I know of adults that are hard of hearing or deaf and the negative impact it can have on their lives.
Yes!
I am myself HOH. However I was fine until 1/22/2006 and I am past 60. So I can understand what it is for a young child who is HOH and having to go through life as HOH. What we can at least do is make sure hearing aids are covered by our Health Insurance.
Children are immensely resourceful. Years ago I knew a child who taught herself to lip read so she could understand her teachers. It was months before her family realized the extent of her hearing impairment. Today children are tested early in life. What's the point of testing if insurance companies don't honor the medical audiological results? What's the point of insurance companies that classify medical recommendations as cosmetic devices?
Not just children, but all people who need hearing aids should receive them.
My daughter and son-in-law are hearing impaired and wear aids and I belong to the Hearing Loss of American Assoc North of Boston Group
