In 1999 Mayor Rudolph Giuliani banned ferrets in NYC. We believe ferrets have an undeserved reputation of being vicious, undomesticated animals. That is untrue. It is (or should be) a known fact that ferrets have been domesticated for 2,000 years at least. Confusing or substituting the title "weasel" for "ferret" is a common (and I'll be it, kind of dumb) mistake. From my experience I have learned ferrets do not (whatsoever) share the same "nasty" demeanor as their cousins. Let it also be known that ferrets are said to be at least 5x less likely to bite than cats and dogs. In forty-eight of the fifty states ferrets are legal. The State of New York is included. Unfortunately, in New York's five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens and the Bronx, they are not. We would like you to join us in the fight for ferret legalization in New York City. People should do their research before making animals illegal. If they have one legitimate reason for banning ferrets then I want to hear it.
