**UPDATE**: The petition has closed, as International Animal Rescue has already intervened on the Orangutans' behalf. Unfortunately, the mother Orangutan died from her wounds before the group could save her, but her child lived and is being rehabilitated. Please take the time to visit International Animal Rescue's site and thank them for their efforts. As the wonderful work they do is also very costly, please consider donating as well. And thank you all for your efforts to save these animals!

Victims of Indonesian deforestation, a group of Orangutans recently left their natural habitat in search of food. When this search took them to local village Sungai Pinyuh, they were captured and beaten--one so badly that it lost its life--and were then chained and thrown into a small outdoor enclosure. The fate of the surviving animals is unclear. Please sign the below petition asking for these incredibly intelligent animals to be moved to a sanctuary where they will be protected from overzealous villagers and the destruction of their natural habitat.

Please Release the Sungai Pinyuh Orangutans
Dear Honorable Official
I have recently learned that Sungai Pinyuh in your province has captured and beaten Orangutans which wandered into the village in search of food. These animals are victims of local deforestation, losing their natural habitat and natural food sources in an incredibly short period of time. They are not at fault for their actions nor should they face violence and incarceration at the hands of locals. Please immediately release the animals to the safety of a local national park, such as Betung Kerihun, Bukit Baka Bukit Raya, Danau Sentarum, or Gunung Palung.
Thank you for your time and your quick response.
