We the undersigned,
Currently under Canadian law, manufacturers of jackets, hats, mitts and other fur-trimmed items are not required to label their products as to their content, whatsoever. These items are usually unidentified animal fur that has been DNA tested by the U.S. Humane Society as containing dog and cat fur. Asian countries, particularly China, make no secret of raising companion animals in freezing filthy conditions, only to be harvested for their fur at a rate of over 5400 animals a day. Many of these animals will be skinned alive after carelessly being stunned. Please demand action from the Honourable Minister to amend this section of The Export and Import Permits Act [EIPA, 1947] to provide accuracy for consumer purchasing. Make truthful and transparent labelling of all fur-trimmed garments mandatory!
Thank you, Minister Fast, for your time and attention to this very important issue.
