San Francisco has banned plastic bags, let's follow their lead here in Atlantic Canada. One Atlantic Superstore location in Halifax, Nova Scotia will stop giving out plastic bags this month--excellent! Let's tell other grocery stores and businesses to do the same. It takes 12 million barrels of oil to manufacture 100 billion plastic bags, which is how many are used in the U.S. alone each year.

Although alot of the stores now sell recyclable bags I feel there are still too many plastic ones being used. I feel that they should not have the plastic bags in the stores at all, out of sight out of mind. Just offer the boxes or the recycleable bags end of story

I would be thrilled if all plastic bags were banned. The Coop Store in Truro is going plastic bag free this July! Yeah for them. People want to use the cloth bags but are always forgetting them in their car. One time to the car with their arms full and they would remember!!! How much nicer our countryside would look without these awful bags!!

Please consider signing this petition. A lot of people bring reusable plastic or cloth shopping bags when they go to the mall or the supermarket but a lot of others don't, preferring to accumulate as many bags as possible, as if they're a hot commodity or something. Banning plastic bags is the direction we need to go in.
