We have been working for progress on the environmental justice issue for years. I don't care how much the private sector squirms, it is your job as City Council to ensure equal environmental protection under the law.

The city of Cincinnati is rated number seven in the top ten cities most polluted by year-round particle pollution. If you want this to improve you need to think more about the environmental effects of business's wanting to bring barge facilities within city limits, or junk yards. We understand it takes money to pay for the expenses of running a city and all of its services, but if you keep polluting your residents the only people left in the city will be the ones who can't afford to move out and too sick to work. Look at all the work and expense going into improving downtown and Over the Rhine. The dirt from diesel fumes and filth being washed off the side of the trains and trucks, sitting around in city limits waiting to be offloaded onto barges, will be carried by the wind into the downtown area just as it will be carried into the other neighboring area of Lower Price Hill, making your lovely revitalization projects ugly sooty projects. This doesn't even take into consideration the increase in ashma cases. We need a way to have a say in what happens in our neighborhoods, the need of monetary green too often out ways the need of natural green and effects good judgment. All too often our children are the victims..

I have received comments from people I meet regarding their understanding that Cincinnati has serious air pollution problems. It is not good for a city to be known for such a negative quality.

I live in Lower Price Hill and am aware that local residents and school children have suffered life-threatening illnesses such as asthma and lead poisoning because they have been impacted by industrial pollutants over a long time. As we redesign the industrial zone near this historic residential town, we need regulatory protections with which new industries are obligated to comply. This is not only good for residents of downtown Cincinnati, it is good for business.

Having lived in a neighborhood (Spring Grove) that is substantially affected by the current environmental injustice for the past 8 years, I am in strong favor of change. It is essential that the air pollution that disproportionally impacts our community be curbed. As a mother and a nurse, I strongly support the Environmental Justice Ordinance.

I live in Corryville/Clifton and must pick up stray garbage out of my front yard DAILY, because of the lack of concern for the environment in this neighborhood. Please do what's necessary to keep Cincinnati beautiful.

As a former resident of the Winton Hills area, my family and I were exposed daily to the foul odors that emanated from the chemical plants along Spring Grove Avenue. No person deserves to be subjected to hazardous air.

Cincinnati city council is not trying hard enough to end environmental racism. There is word that they want to turn the proposed Environmental Justice Ordinance into a resolution. A resolution carries no weight. It would be like saying you want to be a vegetarian and then going right out and eating meat. Help us sway the vote. Please sign this petition!

Cincinnati still has a long way to go to be a "green city." Legislation that will improve people's health and simultaneously make Cincinnati a better place to live should be passed without hesitation.

I am so proud that City Council members are finally getting this Environmental Justice Ordinance passed. This and the turning over and transformation of city owned empty lots into community gardens will put Cincinnati on the "green city map" in a new way. Something we can really be proud of!! Thank you!

Any action that reduces pollution will benefit a reduction in global warming in some way. Climate change far and way is a great threat to humanity than the current economic issues.

It's an ignorant notion to believe that a healthy environment and a prosperous economy do not go hand in hand. How much more evidence is needed to demonstrate that air, water, and land pollution exact measurable costs upon the health and well-being of ALL life forms within our communities? Please stop thinking of prosperity solely in terms of financial wealth, and consider the natural and human capital that is required to sustain material wealth in the first place. Be smart.

As an earth scientist, I believe the environmental justice ordinance will help to reduce our community's contribution to the greenhouse gases that foster global warming. Add to this the health benefits that accrue to our residents with reductions in air pollution, this ordinance becomes a life-saver in both the short- and long-term.

I'm especially interested in this as a new father. My partner and i are finishing school and are considered whether or not to stay in the area. We pay close attention to how people value their natural resources, and we have found Cincinnati to be a bit mixed. We love our parks, but having smog that rivals Los Angeles is just ridiculous. It is our hope that this city keeps looking towards the future and away from old-fashioned, faux-nostalgic views towards leniency, which ultimately just give our future generation lives of lower quality. They deserve better that that, and so does our city.

Living in Clifton, we already smell a lot of pollution from factories along 75 and from the "Ivorydale" area. We are often besieged with smog alerts all summer. It's time to act to make this a better area environmentally. Thanks for your consideration in this important matter. Dianna Schweitzer
