We the people, need to act now because an estimated 180,000 people die each year directly from diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a serious disease caused from the pancreas from lack of insulin. When the pancreas stops producing insulin the body's blood sugar rises and the person's body gets diabetes. The human pancreas is an amazing organ with two main functions: [1] to produce pancreatic endocrine hormones (e.g., insulin & glucagon) which help regulate many aspects of our metabolism and [2], to produce pancreatic digestive enzymes. The hormone function of the pancreas is the emphasis of this portion of Endocrine Web ~ this is referred to as the Endocrine Pancreas. Pancreatic production of insulin, somatostatin, gastrin, and glucagon plays an important role in maintaining sugar and salt balance in our bodies and therefore any problem in the production or regulation of these hormones will manifest itself with problems with blood sugar and fluid / salt imbalances.

Dear President Obama, Thank you for okaying stem cell research. Now let us advance forward to the cure for TYPE 1 DIABETES. It is almost the four year anniversary of my Granddaughter's diagnosis and further encouraging new toward a cure would be a great gift. She and her family are going to be walking in her 5th Beat The Bridge walk this May here in Seattle. After a pour down of a walk in her first walk she asked "Now do we have a cure?" The answer is no but we are sure doing all we can to get one. That is in the face of so many who say there will never be one. My Granddaughter did nothing to have to be get this disease. She keeps track of everything she eats, excercises more than most 9 year olds, is not a coach potato......she would not have TYPE 2 DIABETES. Thank you for your time. MAR

There was talk of Australian Spider venom that may hold the cure, but whatever it takes (if a cure is found), it MUST be released into the public a.s.a.p.!
