Proposed Walpole Power Plant

Opposition to Walpole Power Plant

Target:
Walpole Selectmen and Legislators
Sponsored by:
A Petition in Opposition to a Power Plant in Walpole

We oppose a 580 megawatt gas fired power plant in Walpole because it will threaten our water supply, and negatively impact our health and air.

16,000 gallons of aqueous ammonia, and other hazardous chemicals will be stored over our Sole Source Aquifer and increase the risk of leaks, spills, or a catastrophic event that could pollute our water supply and force evacuation of homes.

The plant will draw up to 200,000 gallons of water a day from our aquifer and require a two million gallon backup water storage tank and a 500,000 gallon tank for fire suppression.

Two 250 foot smokestacks will disperse tons of emissions over a 6 to 12 mile radius. These pollutants are associated with respiratory problems in children and the elderly. An elementary school and pre-school center are located within one mile of the site.

a power plant is a horrible thing, in todays insights we are trying to reverse things light pollution and global warming.... so why are we attempting to spend money on things that will do just the opposite? there are many many cleaner alternatives to introducing a power plant anywhere, nevermind a community that is very rich in young children. sometimes I wonder what is going on in the brains of certain people.

WAKE UP OFFICIALS IN WALPOLE! The proposed powerplant would negatively hurt your town. I live in Norwood, just 5 miles from the proposed sight, and both my husband and I suffer from asthma and other lung conditions. It is time for society to accept responsibilities for our environment, and a powerplant would only add to the degrading conditions. By the way, residents in NORWOOD don't want it either, contrary to rumors.

My family is looking to purchase a home in the town of Walpole - we have really come to love the town and were looking forward to settling there. This would cause us to have to reconsider our decision - I hope you will not build this plant!

In addition to posing a health and environental risk, a power plant in Walpole will inevitably bring down property values. Sensible, responsible folks will MOVE AWAY. Town leaders: LOOK at the BIG PICTURE.

I oppose the Walpole power plant because of its impact and health of residents!!!! (which will, in turn, affect property values)

The health of thousands of children in the Walpole area can be protected by keeping the power plant out of Walpole. Please support us and show your opposition the CPV. You can make a difference, please make the right choice.

Please, please!! Do not ruin this lovely town by allowing the power plant to be built here. Our air and our water will suffer greatly and this will cause many of our citizens to leave. Please!

We need forward-thinking solutions to the economic problems in Walpole. The power plant proposal is not what we need for sustained positive growth.

There is, as you know, a Walpole water shortage that is not going away. Building a power plant that will draw up to 200,000 gallons of water a day is madness. This power plant has to locate somewhere with plentiful water and low density population, i.e. not Walpole MA.

This power plant will add no value to our town. In fact it will be a detriment to air quality not only in Walpole but in surrounding towns also. Our health and that of our children is not for sale.
# 673:

I am against this proposed power plant for many reasons; the major reason being the impact on the health of Walpole residents. Breathing in particulate matter into our lings is definitely detrimental to our health. We need to have power plants in rural areas where there are no inhabitants for miles around it.

allowing the power plant into Walpole is a bad idea. Life is too precious to allow a business that will create environmental and healh issues into Walpole all in the pursut of Tax dollars. I would rather pay more in Property tax and live in an environment that is healthy for my family. please keep the power plant out of Walpole

My request to oppose the gas fired power plant in Walpole because it will not only draw many many gallons of water but will pollute water health and air of everyone in Walpole and surrounding towns.

Take a look at the cancer and the Asthma rates in the communities that the power plant would impact ! Try to find an alternative .Why does CPV go after communities that need $$ I am sure there is plenty of land in Weston and Dover ma

Even though it "might" help defray out taxes, it's not the kind of thing we would welcome; it's too hazardous. Why not try for a solar wind farm instead?

I live near Boyden Elementary School and am very concerned with that this plan would endanger our youth, among the rest of us. I have asthma and the air quality is already not good. Any negative impact would be very difficult for me to handle. Please do not allow this to be built on land that would have such a negative impact for so many people who live here.
# 657:
5:47 am PDT, Mar 25, Name not displayed, Massachusetts
I have looked at the pro's and con's and feel that the threat that the CPV poses to our local community is too dangerous.
# 656:
12:32 pm PDT, Mar 24, Ed Loughran, Massachusetts
I have taken the time to listen to both sides and the potential threat that CPV poses to our town and to our health far out weighs the additional revenue Walpole will receive.
# 655:

People in positions to make decisions on behalf of others need to take into consideration the health and safety of the community. Money seems to be taking the place of health and safety and it needs to stop.
# 654:
9:00 am PDT, Mar 21, Janet Weathers, Massachusetts
In addition to the local threats to health and the environment, citizens of the US cannot afford to continue to increase global warming. There are environmentally-safe ways to produce power and we need to start using them now. Hull has a wind generator in place now and it has become a point of attraction for the town. A Mass. company (Evergreen Solar) has developed a method for making solar fuel cells so efficiently it expects to compete with the 'grid' within two years and has an alliance with NSTAR. By the time CPV would have completed construction of the proposed power plant, it will be obsolete. Furthermore, there is little reason to trust CPVs proposed changes as its track record in other communities has been terrible.
