Please Allow Dogs in Downtown Santa Cruz!

We the undersigned, responsible dog owners, believe that the presence of well-mannered pets add to the quality of life in our town. We want dogs to be able to accompany their owners while shopping on Pacific Avenue in Downtown Santa Cruz, California.
We support the following dog rules:1. Owners must immediately pick up after their dog or there will be a $500 fine. Poop is litter.2. Dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 foot and in control at all times.3. Dogs must be current on vaccinations, licensing and abide by County spay/neuter laws.4. City police and city security staff can ask an owner to remove a dog that appears dangerous, threatening, out of control or in violation of city or county ordinances.5. Store owners have the right to choose whether to allow dogs in their shops and have the right to refuse service to any person or dog.

These rules must be posted at least once per block on BOTH sides of the street, along with poop bag stations.
Further, we realize that there is a cost for making and posting these signs and we will participate in fundraising to underwrite the cost of posting these rules and for poop bag stations.
Statistically, dog owners are middle aged home owners with expendable income. At 41% of the population, dog owners are a strong economic force in Santa Cruz.
We want to be able to spend our money in Downtown Santa Cruz, not Carmel, Downtown Los Gatos or Santana Row in San Jose. We feel our presence would help revitalize our Downtown.
Thank you for your time and your support.
