PLEASE DONT BREED OUR HORSES II
*PLEASE NOTE: Well we had to re-write this petition as NEER & Meadowgates Rescues complained that we were publishing their phone numbers in the old petition (eventhough you can find their phone numbers on their websites) Anyways, we had 250 signatures when they closed it so now we are starting over, without the phone numbers, of course.
Due to financial difficulties we are experiencing at Quarter-Acre Rescue Ranch (QARR), on March 13, 2008 we "surrendered" our four rescue horses to Beth Hill Ross of New England Equine Rescue (NEER) trusting that they would remain the property of NEER and that NEER would "do the right thing" by our horses, be responsible for them and place them into "forever loving homes" through NEER's "normal adoptive procedures," - as IS STATED on the surrender form. However, we have since come to learn that what NEER did was to deliver and transfer ownership "outright" to Pam Watros of MeadowGate Farm "and rescue" in Newfield, NY. There was no contract between the two "rescues" providing any protections for the horses future well-being, and up until the time of this placement, no one had ever heard of this "MeadowGate" rescue before, and they WERE NOT on NEER's list of "approved rescues" to work with nor was/is MeadowGate a part of NEER's tight knit little community of horse rescuers they call the "Horse Rescue Coalition (HRC)." Prior to this incident, Pam Watros and MeadowGate were virtual strangers to us all, including all 600 NEER members as well as everyone in the "AnotherChance4Horses (AC4H) Rescue Groups . Beth of NEER does claim to have "made a few calls" to "some people" in regrards to this "rescue," but no farm visit, vet or farrier references were checked, still our horses were shipped directly from here to Pam at MeadowGate, without our knowledge! Nevertheless, Beth of NEER just simply out and out GAVE ownership of our four rescued horses to Pam Watros of MeadowGate Farm without ANY contract and KNOWING she planned to breed them! Moreover, although it is written as part of the surrender form, that NEER is to give us periodic updates on our surrendered horses, Beth from NEER refuses to give us any info as to the status of our horses. Last week we called Pam from MeadowGate to see what "the plan" was for our horses, and she told us over the phone that her plan was to breed the three (well-bred) mares we surrendered to NEER! She did say that she was waiting on a vetenarians evaluation as to whether they would be suitable for her breeding program. If yes, she will keep the mares for herself simply to breed! We let Pam know "right then and there" that it was certainly NOT our intention to allow any breeding of the mares when we signed them over to NEER. QARR has a well-publicized NO BREEDING policy that NEER was well aware of and we thought that NEER had a NO BREEDING policy too! We are VEHEMITLY opposed to any breeding of our mares, particularly since all of our mares have "foot and leg" issues, so that allowing them to breed would not be in their best interest. Now Pam Watros of MeadowGate Farm has also cut the lines of communication with us ALSO, so we have NO CLUE if the vetenarians evaluation was done or not, and if so, what was the determination as to the three mares "suitability" for breeding? We hope, but arent certain, that the answer was "no" to any idea of breeding. We are writing this petition in hopes that all horse lovers, rescuers and protectors who believe it is NOT right to BREED rescued horses under any circumstances, let alone mares with "compromised" feet and leg issues! Please sign this petition to ask BETH of NEER and PAM of MEADOWGATE NOT to ALLOW the breeding of QARR's horses FOR ANY REASON by ANYONE - and to put it in writing for us! When we turned these horses over to NEER, little did we expect NEER to turn around and give them away to someone who would breed them! Please, help us to prevent any breeding of our surrendered horses and sign the petition and let NEER & Meadowgates know that you are OPPOSED to the plan to breed the QARR mares. SAVE A LIFE NOT CREATE A LIFE! Thank you!
