Put a Stop to Drug Ads in the United States

Target:
FDA
Sponsored by:
Drug ads like the ones you see on TV and in magazines in the United States have been proven to create symptoms in people. They are biased, manipulative, and completely ridiculous. Patients should not learn about a supposed "condition" from television and then talk to their doctor about it - they should confront their doctor with symptoms that they are actually feeling (without being made to feel them by a television ad) and ask their doctor if they can be put on a certain medication. These ads have already been banned in Canada and the United States should do the same to stop the incredible control that pharmaceutical companies have over the public! Please sign to stop this!

People have begun to self-diagnose by listening to the drug ads on television. Even the most poorly trained doctor is still more qualified to diagnose than the average citizen. Take the drug ads off of tv.

There is nothing altruistic about this sales tactic. It is bad medicine.

The side effects brought about by drugs tend to be worse than the symptoms they're supposed to treat anyway. How about an allergic rhinitis treatment that does NOT cause nasal irritation?!

Ask your doctor if you can afford one.

I do not want to see drug ads on TV. It greatly disturbes me to hear them while I am trying to enjoy TV. They are manipulative and ridiculous! Patients should depend on their doctors for information regarding drugs and health care issues. Please get the off the TV!!!!!

Enough is already paid for prescriptions, why should we have to pay more for these television commercials.

After the advertising of prescription drugs began to be displayed on TV, I wondered how much additional dollars this added to already exhorbitant prescription drug costs. It seems to me that if a doctor feels a patient needs a specific medication, the doctor will prescribe that medication, rather than allow the patient to walk in and ask/demand that he be given a drug that may not be the best, most effective drug for the treatment of his symptoms. These ads are not only costly, but, in my opinion, dangerous. The general public really does not need to be told to "ask your doctor" about prescription drugs, as the drug companies already are sending representatives into the doctors offices, touting the benefits of their drugs vs. "the other company",and taking up valuable patient time. Let the physicians prescribe, and stop the public advertising of prescription drugs.
