Stop allowing pets to be listed on Freecycle

While it is up to each individual Freecycle group to "decide" whether or not to allow memberss to list pets, too often it is left up to an individual group's moderator. While well meaning, these individuals likely do not grasp the unintended consequences of treating dogs and cats like used lawn furniture! Despite contacting Freecycle (sponsored by Waste Management) they are firm in their decision to "allow" this decision to be made on the local level. They are wrong! Sign the petition to end this practice!

Dear Waste Management,

We the undersigned encourage you to update your corporate responsibility statement denouncing and banning the listing or posting of pets on Freecycle. The risks far outweigh the gains. As responsible individuals, we believe that pets do not fit into the stated purpose of Freecycle.

"(Freecycle is) a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills."

Clearly, pets are not fodder for landfills and fall outside the parameters of this clearly stated objective.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter!
