Stop Breed Specific Legislation in PA

Target:
All Animal Lovers

Breed specific legislation (BSL) targets specific breed(s) for restrictions or bans. BSL is ineffective, costly to residents and unfair to responsible dog owners.

Baltimore, MD estimated that in 2001 it cost the city $750,000.00 a year to enforce their BSL and they repealed it in favor of a non-breed specific law.  This money would be better spent saving the lives of the animals rather than killing them.

people need to know that its not the breed of dog that is the problem its the owners of the dog.Even breeders of fighting pit bulls will tell you its very hard for them to train the pit bull to fight cause its just not in there nature to be aggrisive dogs, they are very friendly dogs and can be around people of all ages other dogs and even cats without any problems.I own a pit bull and she is a great dog does not even bark or growl but does snore she is nothing to be affaid of like most of her breed they just want to be loved.

Any domestic animals' temperment is directly relative to its' treatment received from its' master. Let's ban abusive owners not the breed iself.

I am against any legislation that discriminates against any group of person or animal. As a resident of PA, I am embarrassed that such a Bill is even being considered.

BSL must stop! It is not fair to penalize an entire breed based on the poor training and guidance of their owners! Any dog of any breed can become an aggressive animal! We should have every right to choose what breed of dog will fit in with our lifestyles, and personal preferences. Please don't punish dogs as being aggressive just because they are of a particular breed.

Don't waste money on BSL - spend the money helping unwanted animals and saving their lives.

i've got 2 loving pitties that i would die for... this BSL is a loud of bull and is only caused by people that have nothing else to do with their time, they should get themselves a pittie and see what their really all about, "what man does not understand, man fears, what man fears, man destroys"

BSL is NOT the answer and wont solve the problem. We need harsher punishments for the immature pet owners out there who don't know how to handle or care for dogs. It's unfair and wrong to punish everyone else for their mistakes. I own a german shepherd/lab mix and he's the nicest dog in my development. Dogs are like children, they need worked with to be taught how to act. I dont see anyone wanting to put limits on all the "bad" kids out there that get into trouble or wanting a certain race of people killed or banned because of their race. Why do it to dogs. I dont own any pit bulls at this point but I will in the near future and I want to see them be able to go to a dog park and interact with people without be restrained simply because of their breed and because the news ONLY shows the "bad apples" of the breed intead of showing that they put their lives in danger to save people and that they bring smiles to peoples faces with their personalities. Any dog can bite if trained that way, small or large. With BSL your asking people to get rid of family members and taking childrens best friends away from them. Just stop and think about the families that will be torn apart and destroyed because you want to put a label on a dog, a living breathing being that was created to love and be loved. Sure dogs are not people but they deserve just as much chance to live their lives as any person does. I hear everyday about repeating offenders getting out of jail just to end up their in another month or two but I don't see anyone rushing to put them down or to tell them that they cant go out into public . i am 1000+% AGAINST this and will fight to make PA a no BSL state!!

BSL is racism. We are drilled against racism in South Africa. Why should our dogs be discriminated against if it is not allowed for us as humans?

I owned a pit bull who was 11 years old. He had joint problems and could not control his bowels anymore. We had to put him to sleep although he had never harmed a fly. He was great with my son who is now six. I now own a beautiful red nose pit who is almost two years old now. Yes she is very hyper, but she is still a pup. Again this dog has never bit or tried to harm anyone. No she is not to dog friendly, but she loves people. She wants to be friends with everyone. It's not the breed. It's the people who get a hold of this amazing breed and turn them in to monsters. Punish them, not responsable owners and good dogs.

The irresponsible people that are casing this are the ones that should be held accountable, not innocent animals.

Punish the deed not the breed. It is irresponsible owners that are the problem and always have been not the innocent dogs that this type of legislation targets. Do the right thing and enforce the laws we currently have for these horrific crimes against the dogs. Put the humans that are responsible in jail and stand strong against animal cruelity and abuse.

Breed specific legislation is not fair because it fails to look at the main cause behind aggressive dogs --- the human owners! To label whole groups of dogs as vicious without considering their individual characteristics is ludicrous. There are many vicious dogs who are not pit bulls! This is not fair to the breed or to the responsible owners of pit bulls to pass this bill.

Dogs should be judged individually not by their breed. Laws aimed at a specific breed are unfair.
