STOP THE HUNT IN LOWER MAKEFIELD, YARDLEY, PA

Target:

We the undersigned request you stop the hunt in Lower Makefield Township, Yardley, PA 19067.

HUNTING IN RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES IS NOT THE SOLUTION. KILLING IS NOT AN EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT RESOURCE TOOL. In fact, countless studies have shown that deer hunting actually boosts the reproductive rates in deer populations. Deer who live under non-hunting conditions, for example, typically produce one offspring, while deer who are hunted are far more likely to bear twins and triplets.

We request humane alternatives and non-lethal solutions. Stop the killing and slaughter that permeates OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.There is no scientific
evidence to justify this hunt.

We have a chance to be more progressive stewards of our environment with humane alternatives. We do not want our taxpayers dollars to be spent for hunts. It is a disregard for humanity and the safety of our community to bring guns and archery into our peaceful neighborhood.

Killing teaches our children that the way to solve a problem if there is a perceived issue is with guns and violence. This is not the message we want to send our children.

We invite you to review the extensive literature on humane wildlife management and now call upon the BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND REPRESENTATIVES  to use these resources safely, effectively, and humanely.

Let the board know how you feel. Request a moratorium on the hunt now and to use humane alternatives to preserve our community at:
Write the board members, make a phone call. Tell them to stop the hunt and use humane alternatives to co-exist with the wildlife in our community. Contact information--ASK FOR A REPLY.

It is sickening to find out that you allow a bunch of amateurs kill defenseless deer without having the citizen vote on it. Killing animal by bow and arrow by amateurs or pros must be the most cruel death any creature can possible face. I feel betrayed by my elected officials. Human possibilities like roundup, tranquilizing the deer and transport / relocation to undeveloped areas of rural PA or in the Northeast would be more than an alternative. Shame on you counselors for allowing the slaughter of our deer population' Where are you on the real issues like lowering the escalating property taxes in the township.

Why do we blame the animal when humans have encroached into their domain. Then humans feel so compelled to kill as a means of domination. I believe that in 2009, humans should have evolved to be more humane and considerate of our natural environment inclusive of the animals we have displaced. Perhaps a little planning to embrace nature and live within it would be beneficial compared to the perpetual slaughter proposed to control populations of animals... what a contradiction! Human population is at an all time high while the animal kingdom is facing extinctions yet we still feel compelled to destroy.

How can we teach our children compassion and decency when we allow abuse of those who are in our care.

52 days of archery hunting? Too, too many days for citizens not to be able to use our preserve. Just cant understand the rationale of the game commission to view 'culling' as a sport. Who allowed 52 days of hunting? It is an outrageous idea.

Please stop this hunt as soon as possible. This is a terrible thing for you to have voted on and I am heartsick over your decision. There is not an abundance of deer in Lower Makefield and you should stop this slaughter as soon as possible. It simply is not right and I oppose it. I plan on never forgetting those of you who voted for this and promise never to vote for you in the future for any office.

Hi Everyone, Please sign this petition to the Lower Makefield Board of Supervisors opposing the current deer hunt in Lower Makefield. Right now they have authorized a 52 day bow and arrow hunt in our Five Mile Woodsw Nature Preserve, to be followed by a sharpshoot early next year. After that there could be hunts on other township-owned properties, including Patterson Farm, Makefield Highlands Golf Course, Macclesfield Park, etc. Please join us and let the Supervisors know you oppose this now! Thank you, Ginni Torbert

The Lower Makefield Township Board of Supervisors have abused their discretion and violated their duty to taxpayers by authorizing this unnecessary waste of taxpayer dollars. There is no evidence that the deer need to be "managed" by killing them. The BOS never seriously considered the wide array of non-lethal options that are available to "manage" the deer, and instead abdicated the stewardship of OUR natural resources by shamefully capitulating to the Pennsylvania Game (Hunting) Commission. Because of them, innocent animals are now being tortured for no reason other than to satisfy the bloodlust of a few amateur hunters. We should all look forward to voting each of them out of office in the next election.

LMT Supervisors have used unsupported reasoning to authorize deer to be slaughtered in the Five Mile Woods NATURE PRESERVE. They have also threatened tax paying residents with arrest for tresspassing in the PRESERVE during the height of Fall Foilage and the Supervisors have wasted at least $80,000.00 of our Tax Dollars to exterminate 90+ % of the total deer population in Five Mile Woods.
