Stop Tigers Dying Of Hunger

Tigers are in trouble. Unless we act now, we will see the extinction of tigers in our own lifetime. Over the last 100 years we have lost 97% of tigers from the world. Now only 3,200 remain.

One of the biggest threats to tigers is the poaching of their prey. Fewer deer in the forest, means fewer tigers. Bangladesh has one of the last strongholds of tigers in the world. However, the Ministry of Environment & Forest in Bangladesh has recently passed a policy which will increase the poaching of tiger prey. They have decided to allow the commercial farming of spotted deer which provides a legal market for deer products such as meat, skin and antlers. This market will be used by poachers to sell their illegally poached deer, and they will be stimulated to poach even more deer.

Illegal poaching is already rampant in Bangladesh - over 10,000 deer are illegally poached from tiger forest each year. Tigers are going hungry.

There is little law enforcement due to lack of manpower and money. In fact, more than 90% of people surveyed know that deer poaching is illegal but this does not stop them because they have no fear of the law.

Urge the Ministry of Environment and Forest to stop commercial deer farming in Bangladesh. Tell them that they need to improve law enforcement to get a handle on the existing levels of poaching rather than introduce a policy that will increase poaching and send it even more out of control.

The future of tigers is at stake. Act now and pledge for a future with tigers.
