Little Egg Harbor cannot support the traffic that would be created by having this Big Box store located on Route 9. The traffic is becoming a problem already. This will also drive up traffic through our residential areas.
The environmental impacts will be runoff from the parking lots, light pollution at night, noise pollution from the traffic and garbage pollution. Parking lots tend to turn into dumping grounds for peoples garbage.
Our small businesses will be affected as well. Our local shops, garden centers and food markets rely on the local economy to stay in business. The addition of Walmart could cause these businesses to go under and create blighted areas by having abandoned strip malls and shopping centers around the township.
Think of the poor folks residing on Stage & Otis Bog roads. Their quiet neighborhoods are at risk. These areas of quiet, wooded neighborhoods are at risk to becoming noisy and polluted. Their view of the stars at night will be obliterated by the bright lights of this store. Would you want this in your backyard?
Do we want the overcrowding and traffic issues like they have in Manahawkin? If you agree, then please sign this petition and forward.
Thank you!

We the undersigned believe that this proposed Super Center will be the demise of our small town. No longer will we have that small town community feel. We will be destined to realm of BIG BOX and Cul De Sac world and become a nameless, faceless town just like the rest of NJ. No more South Jersey charm. We also believe that this will give other Big Box stores carte blanche in ruining our town. Stop the madness. Thank you for listening.
We signed the "STOP WALMART IN LITTLE EGG HARBOR NJ" petition!

We must do everything in our power to fight this - the very future of what we all came to love about this town is being threatened. If Walmart moves in our town will be ruined forever . Fight this like we fought to chase out the proposed strip club. Together we can amd must save our town. NO WALMART !

There are many reasons for Walmart not to be permitted to build here. Traffic, the way they treat their employees. The way they take care of their properties after the move into the area. Their total lack of concern for the town or its people when they come to build.

Traffic, and all related problems, has increased in our area year after year, many small businesses in our area have enough difficulty staying afloat- Manahawkin is only several miles away- why do we need another Walmart any closer?

Wal Mart parking lots are notoriously famous for crime; serious crimes. Abductions, sexual assaults, murders. It is a known fact that Wal mart will not invest any money into security in their lots. Can our town afford the additional resources due to this additional rate of crimes? NO. We don't need this here. Let them knock down their store in Manahawkin and rebuild it. Not in my backyard....ever. For crime stats see http://www.walmartcrimereport.com/report.html http://www.walmartmovie.com/crime_parkinglots.php http://walmartcrimereport.com/crimereport.html

It's ridiculous to put a Walmart here in LEH when there are so many "big box stores" located so close in Manahawkin! The landscape of our beautiful town has already changed too much over the past 10 years. KEEP WALMART OUT!!!

Everyone I've spoken with has the same thought process of .." why go to the meetings...it's a done deal...Somebody got payed off and nothing we can do will change it" It's NOT Over yet!! We can make a difference. I refuse to believe we don't have a voice.

Ugh! We just came from North Carolina. They let Walmart into their "small towns" too. It was such a dramatic change in traffic patterns, environmental impacts, and major crime - that people left homes they had lived in for generations. It was convenient-yes, but at what cost. It changed the whole atmosphere of the area. What drew us here from the "promised land" of North Carolina? You got it- the hometown feel of Little Egg Harbor. I sure hope officials listen to more than the supposed budget and tax helps that this store will bring. I listened to officials down south deeply regretting the decision they made. What they thought was going to "save" their town ended up destroying it. Sad thing is- once it's done, there is no turning back. NJ can't come into a Walmart parking lot and declare it a Green Space. They can't bring the small town feel back once it's lost. They also can't bring back the families that find its just too busy of an area to raise their familes in.

We really don't need a walmart in this town when there is one at times due to the traffic is an hour away and from Mystic to Manahawkin is only about 13 miles. So imagine what the traffic would be if one comes to our town.

Wal-Mart would present an unwelcome intrusion into our community. It is an anti-union concern whose prices undercut every other competitor since their main supplier is China. Mostly, the traffic and duplication of services are unnecessary. Those wanting Wal Mart can go to Manahawkin. We are already suffering from small businesses faltering in our local strip malls. Let's not add to the vacant-store syndrome.

Wal-Mart destroys the environment. Keep our bay and forests Wal-mart free! The facts below are from www.wakeupwalmart.com. Check it out!
*Between 2003 and 2005, state and federal environmental agencies fined Wal-Mart $5 million.
*In 2005, Wal-Mart reached a $1.15 million settlement with the State of Connecticut for allowing improperly stored pesticides and other pollutants to pollute streams. This was the largest such settlement in state history. [Hartford Courant, 8/16/05]
*In May 2004, Wal-Mart agreed to pay the largest settlement for stormwater violations in EPA history. The United States sued Wal-mart for violating the Clean Water Act in 9 states, calling for penalties of over $3.1 million and changes to Wal-Mart's building practices. [U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, May 12, 2004, U.S. v. Wal-Mart Stores Inc., 2004 WL 2370700]
*In 2004, Wal-Mart was fined $765,000 for violating Florida's petroleum storage tank laws at its automobile service centers. Wal-Mart failed to register its fuel tanks, failed to install devices that prevent overflow, did not perform monthly monitoring, lacked current technologies, and blocked state inspectors. [Associated Press, 11/18/04]
*In Georgia, Wal-Mart was fined about $150,000 in 2004 for water contamination. [Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 2/10/05]

The infrastructure within this area cannot and will not tolerate the traffic and other problems associated with a Walmat or any other such business of that size. Addtionally, the proposed location is within a sanctuary of nature, not intended for this purpose.

We settled in Little Egg Harbor because of the wonderful atmosphere...if huge businesses are allowed to come here, that will surely destroy the beauty of the area. The area has already changed because of all the homes that have been built since we moved here in 2002....the traffic has already become a big problem.

I CHOSE LITTLE EGG HARBOR AS MY HOME FOR THE PINELANDS AND WILDLIFE AND DARK NIGHT SKIES. I DO NOT WANT TO SUFFER THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT POLLUTION, GARBAGE, TRAFFIC, AND NOISE AND COMMOTION IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. WALMART SHOULD BE LOCATED IN A MORE BUSINESS AREA LIKE ON RT.72. OR RECOVERY LANE.

Little Egg Harbor and Tuckerton are too small to have a big chain store like Walmart in the town. Walmart would bring way too much traffic to our towns. It would create traffic problems in our towns and we already have a Walmart 9 miles away. NOT NEEDED.
# 84:
11:28 am PDT, Jun 10,Mary Bauer, New Jersey
Little Egg Harbor can't handle the influx of people coming to Walmart. Those who encourage Walmart want to keep the taxes low and have Walmart pay a large tax bill for the town. Those people don't realize that their property values will drop proportionatly. Lower taxes, lower residential values as well.

Politicians claim development provides ratables but I have not seen any benefit to my property taxes as a result of growth. Trees help fight global warming...let's keep them. Sprawl and traffic are both slowly growing in this lovely community. We don't need more which will result from another Walmart being built. The Walmart in is Manahawkin is plenty.

As of April 2006, Little Egg Harbor Twp. was allowed to draw 577 million gallons per year from 7 wells, not to exceed 86 million gallons per month (during peak periods of use). According to reports, the Municipal Utility Administration (MUA) of LEH Twp. asked the Department of Environmental Protection to increase their allowance to 867 million gallons per year, not to exceed 112.7 million per month. DEP officials agreed with the town's assessment of future needs. There is only one flaw: According to a April 9, 2008 report by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), this area of New Jersey is already 10-24% below normal ground water levels (Real-Time Ground-Water Level Network Well Count). The threat of saltwater intrusion into wells--private and public--has increased dramatically.

We moved here from Waretown as we were encroached by a new shop-rite and we chose to live in little egg harbor for its quiet neigborhood which a super walmart will ruin causing noise, pollution, traffic jams and crime. This will place an additional burden on our police dept. investigating parking lot auto accidents, assaults, shoplifting, purse snatching and auto theft. This is an unapropiate and unacceptable location for town people. Why not put it on a main highway somewhere instead of a residential area.
