My student loans crush me financially. I went to undergraduate and then pursued and completed a Master's degree. I have taken a decrease in pay over the last three years. I'm a single mother with two children. Help!!!

I don't personally have to worry about my student loan debt because my parents have saved to help pay my loans down. However, I recently got married only to find out that my wife carries over $140,000 in undergraduate student loan debt. Mostly all in private loans at interest rates over 9%. Even with both of our paychecks it is nearly impossible to make our expected monthly payment of $1,404!!!!!! I honostly cannot understand how a person can buy a car or house or rack up credit card debt that they can't afford and it is possible to unload it through bankrupsy. Please understand we are both proud people and want to pay back what we owe, but something must be done to help. Simply making federal loans cheaper is not a solution because too many students are forced to take out 2 or even 3 times more privte loans than federal. I currently work for a bank. I recently discovered that with interest rates currently being low for first time home buyers, the monthly studen loan payment we make could purchase a $200,000 house. Instead we have broken down cars, rent a crappy house, and cant afford anything good in life. If this is the American dream maybe we should all leave the country.

Other developing countries provide university education free of charge to all citizens. The US should not penalize its citizens for wanting to be educated, which only benefits the country as a whole in the long run. It is time for a student loan bailout because the individuals of this country are "too big to fail," not the corporate money-makers. Not to mention the amount of money that would flood back into our ailing economy if all student loans were forgiven and the increase in the standard of living this would mean for families.

Student loan forgivness is a must. I graduated in 1994 and I can tell you that you never get done paying for student loans. The interest alone will kill you. Please make a way for student loan forgiveness to take place. When Secretary of State H. Clinton was running for the office of President, a part of her platform was student loan forgiveness. Please take her lead. Thank You

I'm a single mother and have been on low income since graduating from The Ill. Institute of Art in 2001. They touted financial aid, industry standards, one on one training and job placement. They didn't live up to any of these standards for the majority of students. When applying for financial aid, they never offered Pell Grants which I was qualified for but learned about too late. The final blow, even tho my portfolio was graded A, I found out it was not industry standard as it was not cross platformed so many prospects wouldn't even look at it. Now my portfolio is obsolete. I am having trouble with Sallie Mae even though I've explained have no money to pay back my loan. Any money I have left, I must survive on and save for my son's health care and education. I don't even know where I'm going to live from month to month as I squat in my home.
We've bailed out big industries as we continue to lose our home. lively hoods and health. Forgiving student loans would be a relative drop in the federal budget and a monumental relief to those of us that are imploding. Please address this a.s.a.p.

I totally agree that some kind of action should be done to help students that have taken out loans. I was attending college and took out loans in 2005-2007, well i ended up not being able to continue due to a medical issue. I am now up for finishing my degree to better my life and my 4 year old life but yesterday, I was denied being able to go back to college. Paper work wasn't filed properly and it set my loans into default....So I don't get to start school on Tuesday October 20th as planned. I ordered my books etc. and I am just flat out denied, and at this point I am a disable single mother, and I need my finished education in order to get a job that i can afford to live, feed my son, and pay of loans, so how am I suppose to do this if there is no solution for past loans. I think an action needs to be taken quickly before poverty hits an all time high. So in simple words, I want to better myself but I am denied by the government.. We need help fixing this problem.

I took out loans to pay for my own college after graduating high school. I did well and graduated with a bachelors degree in 4 years. I am currently employed making a measly 24 grand after taxes in my first entry level position. I am one of the few ones who is actually employed right now but can still barely afford my $600+ a month student loan bills. I have 5 different loans with 5 different due dates, and since I was late with one my credit score is ruined and nobody will offer me consolidation to make it any easier. This is a sham, if I had known going to college would ruin my future I never would have gone. I am a smart young man, but I am getting really feel frustrated that nobody is offering any help

$40,000 AND STILL CAN NOT FIND A JOB IN THAT FEILD, MY LOAN IS IN DEFREMENT FOR ECONOMIC HARDSHIP HOW IRONIC IS THAT? AN EDUCATION THAT I CAN NOT USE BUT HAVE TO PAY FOR, NOT FAIR,THIS BILL SHOULD BE PASSED TO HELP THOSE WHO TRIED TO MAKE THERE LIFE BETTER. I WORKED 3 JOBS WHILE GOING THROUGH COLLEGE AND TOOK CARE OF MY THREE CHILDREN, WHO ARE NOW ON THERE WAY TO COLLEGE, BUT DO I ENCOURGAGE THEM TO GO INTO DEBT BY GOING TO COLLEGE? IS THAT WHERE WE ARE AS A SOCIETY NOW? EDUCATION IN RETURN FOR BIG DEBT.

I owe $184,000 for private studen loans! $54,000 of which is accrued interest. I pay $12,000 a year in interest and $2,500 tax credit is supposed to help me? So I pay taxes on $10,000 that I don't even see. This economy is so screwed up

I have two older children in collage and I worry about them being able to pay their student loans after graduating. With no experience in the field which they are studying for a good paying job that would allow them to pay these loans would not be right away I don't want their efforts to be in vein.

As a small business owner, canceling my student loan debt would enable me to invest more money in my future and less on my past. I owe the government a debt of gratitude (and tens of thousands of dollars), but I'd be able to give so much more to my clients and my community if my loans were forgiven.

I know I'm not the only one out there, that will have a hard time paying off my loans after I finish my schooling. I might be lucky to pay off mine, before I have children of my own that I will try and help pay for their schooling. I always thought going to college would give me a better life, but it seems it's just giving me debt, that I will have a hard time paying off. College should be more affordable for EVERYONE.
