Support Indiana's Pro-LGBT License Plates
Indiana recently began offering pro-LGBT license plates, with funds going to support Indiana Youth Group, which works with Gay Straight Alliances in schools and provides LGBT competency training for social service agencies throughout the state. Indiana's license plate is the first to recognize LGBT youth causes.
Already, though, the American Family Association, an anti-LGBT organization, has begun putting pressure on the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles to remove the plates, citing the "health risks" associated with "the homosexual lifestyle." While the AFA claims that "celebrating youth involved in homosexual behaviors" will increase HIV infection, the real health risk to LGBT youth comes from silence and bullying, which the Indiana Youth Group works to combat.
Act now to tell the Indiana DMV to stand strong in the face of opposition and to continue issuing the pro-LGBT license plates.
We the undersigned thank you for your recent decision to issue pro-LGBT license plates, the first plates in the nation to recognize LGBT youth causes. We know that the American Family Association has criticized the new license plates, citing "health risks" associated with "the homosexual lifestyle." However, we know that the real health risk to LGBT youth comes from silence and bullying, which the Indiana Youth Group works to combat. We applaud your decision and urge you to stand strong in the face of opposition by continuing to issue the pro-LGBT license plates.
