We, the undersigned, support the following petition:

Medway Council must not go ahead with the proposed merger of Chapter and Temple schools which entails the subsequent closure of both. It must listen to the voices of the current, previous and future pupils, parents and staff, who want to retain the ethos, culture and management structure that currently exists at Chapter School. Chapter must not be turned into an academy unless and until a structured and manageable integration of future year seven intakes of both Boys and Girls have achieved a co-educational school. At that time the option of turning Chapter into an academy can be considered.

I attended Chapter in the 80's/90's. At the time I was there we had a threat of merging with Temple which horrified me, my parents considered re-mortgaging at the time to make sure that my wish to go to a single sex school continued. I used to commute some where between 50 miles round trip a day to get to this single sex school, there were others near to where I lived but the did not have the same values as Chapter. It was my choice to go to the all girls school not my parents. I had to take 2 trains and two buses to get to school every day in both directins until I could drive. As a result of what deemed to be a good education at the time I now am more sucessful than that of my friends that went to Grammar and Public schools. My business is one of the fastest growing online e-commerce sites, I supply some of the most famous stores in the world with my wholesale jewellery and have been commissioned to do peices of bespoke work for Sharon Osbourne, the Royal Family and Theo Fennel. Please don't merge this school. Miss Dore and Mrs Griffin during my years have created a good standard of education to an area where merging the school (look at Carnation school in my years at the Chapter site) would fail the pupils and the area. In this changing society some things are best left alone if they aren't broken and Chapter is a prime example of this. Sappho Brammer

Chapter is a fantastic school and all who have been there and are yet to attend will be sad to see it go!! You are taking the chapter family away from those who love it!!

As a former pupil of Chapter school i feel merging the school with Temple would be a huge mistake . Temple school has a terrible reputation merging the two would end up bringing Chapters results down. Chapter works so well as a school because it is single sex and i feel it should stay that way indefinately. I would never send any of my children there if this was to happen its a disaster waiting to happen. Why not close Temple. It worked for Reed School!

When we recently visited local schools in the area the atmosphere at Chapter was well above the rest. Pupils and Staff spoke from the heart and really cared about the school. My daughter decided there and then that is where she wants to go next year but we are obviously very concerned about the new changes. Single sex schools perform much better than mixed which is another reason why we preferred Chapter.

I am happy to sign this petition. Chapter school is a very special school which I feel Medway Council should be proud of. Rather than see things only in financial benefits they should look at the wider picture and the benefits of a school that has a very strong ethos of basic strong moral values and a united community feel. With, I understand good/excellent Ofstead reports. I think schools like this should be cherished not disbanded.

Chapter was and is a great little school. I was very fortunate to complete my first year of teaching there and have very found memories of the place. What we need in this country is properly funded high quality state schools in every town (school's like Chapter no less!) not this awful semi privatised mess the county seems to favour.

I have a daughter in yr 13 at Chapter and a son in yr 10 at temple, I am not opposed to chapter and temple merging but I strongly disagree with an acadamy. My daughter has thrived at chapter she has been encouraged by her teachers particularly in sport and gained excellent qualifications at the end of year 11 and chose to stay at the sixth form rather than college, she is now hoping to go to university to become a teacher, and would love to go beck to chapter as a teacher so she can give something back to the shool she loves. My son I am sad to say has'nt been given the same opportunities as my daughter, pupils at Temple school have no respect for their school or their head teacher, the facilities are appaling. I believe the boys at temple would benefit from merging with chapter as they will be given the same rights as the girls to a decent education, under CHAPTER management
