Tell Facebook to stop selling animals in their marketplace!!
The Facebook Marketplace currently has animals for sale under the "Pets" category. We need to put an end to this now and stop the selling of animals over the Internet. Please sign this petition so we can submit it to Facebook and get this taken off! Online animal sales hurts every single animal suffering in a shelter and Facebook cannot support this process. We should've known better when Zuckerberg didn't adopt his dog!
Dear Facebook,
It has come to the attention of Facebook members that you currently have pets for sale in the Facebook Marketplace. As animal advocates, we simply cannot accept online animal sales when other dogs and cats are dying in shelters across the country. Online sales of animals is inhumane and does not allow for proper screening of those who are purchasing. The purchaser will also have no idea about the real quality of the dog or cat they've bought online, and thus will inevitably result in many of these animals either abandoned or brought to shelters. There is also a "Giving away a pet" option on this Pets Marketplace. Simply giving animals away for free will end up in negligence, abuse, and even severe cases like dog fighting rings. Charging a fee for a pet helps to weed out the people who can't afford the animal's care.
Please support the wishes of your animal advocate community and REMOVE the online sale of animals from the Marketplace. This is a slap in the face to the countless animal advocates who spend their time on Facebook trying to
rescue animals. Please instead list SHELTER animals available for adoption!
