Wanton aquifer depletion and development threatens the natural recharge area of the Hot Springs Aquifer in Truth or Consequences, NM, a state and national treasure. An auto racetrack is planned along with over 4,000 houses to be built over the Aquifer.
The only recharge for the Hot Springs is rainfall.
The Hot Springs are unique, the town is economically dependent upon the Hot Springs. The rainfall is only 8" per year and decreasing because of global warming. A developer promised the NM State Land office Pie in the Sky, and so the State Land Office gave him 12 square miles to develop!! The land's zoning is now being appealed in court, giving them permission to build a gassy racetrack and thousands of houses in a glutted industry. This petition is to demand that the Commissioners repeal the zoning and enact a watershed protection ordinance.

I visited NM this past summer and called my vacation 360 degrees of beauty because of the land and what I saw as I back packed through the national forests of such a pretty place.
That's NM. I spent over 2 months of travels across the land, and would hope that the magic of it's beauty would be there for many ,many years to come.
PLEASE STOP DESTROYING OUR WORLD!
