Don't Fire Teacher for Sending Pictures to Her Husband!

A South Carolina school threatened to fire a 13-year teacher because her student stole her cell phone and found partially nude photos intended for the teacher's husband. After the district threatened to fire the teacher, she resigned. Now, superintendent David Eubanks says that the teacher may face criminal charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

A 16-year old student stole the teacher's cell phone when she left it on the desk and went out into the hall. The student reportedly threatened to use these photos as blackmail, allegedly saying, "your day of reckoning is coming." The school did not comment on whether the student will face disciplinary action for his theft.

Punishing a veteran teacher for her private correspondence with her husband, and for being the victim of theft, is unjust. It also sets a frightening precedent. Teachers should not be held accountable when students steal and snoop through their personal property.

Please sign the petition to urge the school system to apologize to the teacher and offer her her job back.

As an educator, I am upset with your decision to force a South Carolina teacher to resign over photos a student found after stealing her cell phone.

As you know a South Carolina school threatened to fire a 13-year teacher because her student stole her cell phone and found partially nude photos intended for the teacher's husband. After the district threatened to fire the teacher, she resigned. Now, you say that the teacher may face criminal charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
