Over the past several years the capital fountain water has been pink for the entire month of October. This is in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. I am starting this petition to have the water turned TEAL for the month of September, in honor of PCOS Awareness & Ovarian Cancer Month.
"PCOS" stands for "polycystic ovary syndrome," and it is a hormonal endocrine disorder. PCOS leads to imbalances of estrogen, progesterone and androgen. PCOS often causes fertility problems, symptoms typically start during teen years, when a woman begins menstruating. Currently there is no cure for PCOS.
5-10% of women of childbearing age are affected by PCOS, with less than 50% of women diagnosed. This leaves millions of women undiagnosed. PCOS is responsible for 70% of infertility issues in women who have difficulty ovulating.
