Save the European bird population from being trapped and killed in Egypt

Each fall a big part of our birds starts its journey to warmer climate zones like Egypt and other countries in Northern Africa and in the Near East. After the long passage across the Mediterranean Sea or the Sahara desert the birds arrive exhausted on the shores, looking for a tree or a bush to rest, just in order to get caught immediately in huge bird nets. It is hard to believe: The entire coastline in Egypt, a big part of North Africa is covered by nets, several hundreds of kilometers long. You can compare it with the distance from Hamburg to Munich. Millions of birds, especially songbirds, end up on markets, in shops and in frying pans. The huge extent of the illegal bird trapping is frightening and endangers the entire population of our migration birds.

We take so much effort in protecting our birds and wildlife in Europe. We can not allow that this effort is in vain.

Your Excellence, Dr. Mohamed Abdelhamid Ibrahim Higazy, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Federal Republic of Germany

Everybody who signed this letter is very concerned about the European Birds, because they are still murdered in Egypt, your homecountry. Egypt has signed a contract to protect our birds but nobody obeys the law. Germany and we taxpayers spend a lot of money to keep our natural wildlife that we treasure so much. Egypt is boycotting our effort constantly.

Many tourists are disgusted by this practice. Please help!

sincerely
