The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said Wednesday, March 26,
that officials had been working with the owner of the northeast Philadelphia property for several weeks.
A sign on a fence outside the home reads, "I'm the crazy cat lady. And this is the crazy cat house."
Spokeswoman Sara Eremus says conditions in the home have deteriorated to the point
that the animals had to be removed by officers wearing respirators.
So workers spent Wednesday loading the animals into crates to take them to
the SPCA's north Philadelphia shelter, where veterinarians were examining them.
No charges were immediately filed. The homeowner wasn't identified.
