STOP THE SPCA TAMPA BAY IN LARGO FLORIDA FROM EVER DOING ANOTHER FREE ANIMAL WEEKEND

It has been a well-known fact throughout the animal rescue community and shelters that is never a good idea to advertise animals for free on craigslist. There is even a petition going now on this exact site to try to stop individuals from advertising free animals because they end up as bait and dogfighting rings or in laboratories. Even if someone pays a large adoption fee it does not mean animals will always have a good home but the point of this petition is the chances are raised and the percentages are raised that people with bad intentions will come when you are giving away animals for free without any charge whatsoever. It is hard enough to know what will happen to them but when you give them away free you are waving a red flag.

Yet an actual shelter in Tampa Bay had advertised their entire shelter of animals for free as some kind of special event. This is dangerous and ridiculous for an agency in charge of protecting animals to do. You can never be sure what will happen to any adopted animal because you can only interview the people 10 or 20 minutes. HOWEVER FOR A SHELTER TO OFFER AN ENTIRE SHELTER OF ANIMALS FOR FREE AT SOME SPECIAL EVENT IS NOT ONLY DANGEROUS IT IS RIDICULOUS. THEY PUT THOSE ANIMALS AT GREAT RISK. Certainly an animal could still end up in a bad situation if an adoption fee was paid but the percentage would be less and by doing this they put many animals at risk. I wrote to them and said to them do they want to look at any future animals and wonder which ones ended up as dog bait or in laboratories because they are the ones who have put them in that position.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION AND PLEASE ALSO PUT A COMMENT IN THE COMMENT SECTION BECAUSE ONCE WE GET ENOUGH SIGNATURES I AM MAILING IT TO THE CEO SO THAT THEY WILL NEVER EVER DO SOMETHING THIS FOOLISH AGAIN.

We can't change what has already been done but we can ask them never to do it again

Even our local newspaper used to have a disclaimer about their pets for sale that they would not accept ads for free animals for the above reasons yet now we have an actual animal shelter that did it. It is ridiculous and dangerous and I am saddened for all the animals. Please help by signing and putting a comment also. I know we all realize it is not easy to find homes for the volumes of animals that are unwanted but this is not the way to do it and it is a well-known fact that should not be done Thank you for your help

Dear Ms. Boden

We do not know who at your shelter thought of this idea of the free animal weekend but you are the CEO so you should've had some input. It is a very well-known fact in all the animal rescue community that no one should ever advertise animals for free. It puts the animals in danger because they could end up as bait and dogfighting rings or they could end up being sold to laboratories.

We who are signing this realize it is not easy to find homes for the volume of animals that all Shelters take in, but we are requesting that you never ever do a free event like this again and at least charge a minimal adoption fee for the sake and protection of the animals
