Are you an Alaskan? Do you want to know when the food you, your family and your animals are eating is genetically modified? Please sign your name and address to this petition to the Alaskan State legislators reviewing the approval of HB 92 to demand that all bio-engineered food be labeled as containing genetically modified organisms. We have a right to know what is in our food!

Dear Members of the Reviewing Committee for HB 92;

We are concerned Alaskans demanding that all products and produce containing Genetically Modified Organisms be labeled as such. We, as consumers demand the right to make an informed decision when purchasing and consuming food for ourselves and our families. We have a right to know what is in our food!

GM plants, such as soybean, corn, cottonseed, sugar beets and canola have had foreign genes forced into their DNA and are now PATENTED PESTICIDES and listed on HERBICIDE REGISTERS. The inserted genes come from unrelated species, such as bacteria and viruses that have never been in the human food supply.These crops are found in 70-80% of all processed foods.  The FDA does not require impartial safety testing and has fast tracked GMOs into our food supply without any studies independent from Monsanto and other corporate interests.We Alaskans have a right to know what is in our food!

Consumption of GMOs have been linked to thousands of toxic and allergenic reactions, sick, sterile, and dead livestock, and damage to virtually every organ and system studied in lab animals. Ingesting GMOs has been linked to extensive allergies, gastrointestinal diseases, autism and liver and kidney problems. Monsanto is currently trying to get the UN to retract their allegation that glyphosate is linked with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. They should be subject to intense scrutiny and exhaustive testing.We Alaskans have a right to know what is in our food!

Why isn't the FDA protecting us? In 1992, the Food and Drug Administration claimed that they had no information showing that GM foods were substantially different from conventionally grown foods and therefore were safe to eat. But internal memos made public by a lawsuit reveal that political appointees were under orders from the White House to promote GMOs and staged their position. FDA scientists, on the other hand, warned that GMOs can create unpredictable, hard-to-detect side effects and urged long-term safety studies, but were ignored. The FDA does not require any safety evaluations for GMOs. Instead, biotech companies, who have been found guilty of hiding toxic effects of their chemical products, are now in charge of determining whether their GM foods are safe. The FDA official in charge of creating this policy was Michael Taylor, Monsanto's former attorney and later their vice president. We Alaskans have a right to know what is in our food!

Please support HB 92 for the people of Alaska. We ask you to move this bill through congress in the 2015 Congressional Session. VOTE YES and LABEL GMOs IN ALASKA.We Alaskans have a right to know what is in our food!
