People should sign this petition for so many reasons. Global Warming is probably one of the most prevalent issues in today’s society, but also one of the most disregarded. Many don’t believe Global Warming is even occurring despite the abundance of proof. This petition would be to mainly raise awareness of Global Warming as a phenomenon that clearly has no intention of slowing down. Since 1870, global sea levels have risen by about 8 inches. Consequences of global warming include drought, severe hurricanes, massive fires and melting of the polar caps. Heat waves caused by global warming present greater risk of heat-related illness and death, most frequently among patients of diabetes who are elderly or very young.
Furthermore, According to the U.S. Global Change Research Program, the temperature in the U.S. has increased by 2 degrees in the last 50 years and precipitation by 5%. Global warming puts coral reefs in danger as warmer water increases the possibility of coral diseases and the rising sea levels makes it more difficult for coral to receive adequate sunlight. These solid facts ultimately point to an negative influence in society, the environment and our well-beings. There is no better time than now to raise awareness and enlighten the people who either don’t believe in climate change or refuse to believe in it because it’s daunting. There are many simple things one can do to reduce the effects of climate change such as recycling, turning off lights when they’re not needed and using reusable bags instead of plastic or paper ones when grocery shopping.
